Title: UK weather
Post by: Belladonna on July 07, 2013, 10:48:28 AM
We all love to moan or boast so intead of hijacking our own Irreverent weather girlies thread, let's do it here!

I'll start;

ITS BLOODY HOT!!!!   I cant even move out of the kitchen into the garden at the moment! 26 degrees in the kitchen shade, there doesn't seem to be any air outside and even the flowers look like they are panting!!  Can we never get it just right!!!??  ::)

In the sun this afternoon, the gauge read 38c. The weather station in the shade read 29c but it was warm whichever way you say it. Long may it last although I do feel sorry for the workers, just think what they're missing.

Very chilly here! 35 years today and husband hasn't a clue! Shall I remind him? - NO let him sweat!!  ;D

Beautiful here today and just the right time tide too. Mad panic though this afternoon as litle 7 year old went missing. Helicopters were out as were the police roaming the streets with loud speakers. All much a worry but thankfully the little one has now been found. Can you imagine how those poor parents felt?  Sends shivers doesn't it?

Just love waking to this beautiful weather and blue skies. I'm sure I suffer from sad or maybe i'm just plain sad!  :)

You are kidding me! 35 years! Run for those hills ~ you must be free by now!!  Hope the frost has thawed and revealed something lovely underneath!

Hot again today with a fabulous breeze! Sofa covers off, washed and drying outside. Will be testing  my muscles when I bring them in and find they have all shrunk no doubt!  ::)  Bound to storm at some point!  8)

No - still frosty i'm afraid! Oh well had a much better time watching Mama Mia by myself last night rather than being in some stuffy restaurant! I know ....35 years! flipping heck - as my Mum always says 'if I knew then what I know now......"

So lovely here even too hot to walk along the seafront as not the usual draft coming in with the tide! Just love it though. Hope the cushions fit Bella or I see a shopping trip coming on!!  ;D

Going to reach 82 in real money today evidently! All windows open with curtains and blinds half closed to save the bleaching of wood!  Work place has fans on and blinds down. Lights are forbidden - not that you need them, although we might as its so dark inside now!!   Couple of days of sun and we turn into moles to avoid it!!   ::)

It got up to 31c this afternoon, in Gods' Own County, don't know what that is in old but I guess around 84f. Due to cool a little tomorrow and Thursday, then climb for the weekend. Could actually get a dry test match at Trent Bridge !

No rain up here Bella, although we are due some tomorrow they say. At the moment its 30c in the sun and I'm attempting to give the tarmac drive it's annual paint. Mad dogs and Yorkshiremen etc.!

Just had the tree trimmer men in so I think they appreciated it being a little cooler whilst they climbed the trees in their hard hats with heavy tools round their waits and noisy saws cutting away ................. ::) Oh, sorry, back to the weather!  Now turning lovely here with just a few stray whitish clouds. Building up for a scorcher this weekend evidently!  Get that painting done before it dries on the brush Tonsyl!  ;)

You don't have a pool cleaner come round too, do you? You'll never get any work done at all if you do ! As to the painting, all "done and dusted" as they say and this afternoon we got to 29.5 in the shade, had to cool down with a couple of large G & T's. Your turn for the really hot stuff tomorrow, we will be a bit cooler and threatening a couple of thunderstorms. Could just do with this till we are back in PP. early October I think.

Got that wrong, didn't I ?  Very much more uncomfortable to-day, with temperatures higher, in the shade over 30c and humidity rising. With any luck we'll get a good storm to clear the air otherwise there will be a few folk having very sleepless nights to-night.

Could not wish for more perfect weather than we had today! Drive out to the countryside, afternoon tea at Duddlewell Tea Rooms watching SO many classic cars drive by, then off to a Wildfowl ..... place (!)  where they were having a classic car gathering in the grounds too!!  SO glad we had a/c in the car though! You can not beat England when the weather is perfect!  8) Just a shame there are not too many days like it!

Wot,

Thought you'd spend the day with curtains drawn watching the remnants of the Aussie batting order nearly ( larf, larf ) taking us to the wire.

Had to go to a barbeque with friends so took me tranny , grabbed a cool beer and took me self off down their garden to enjoy the cricket.

 Anti social or what ????

Roll on Lords on Thursday , can hardly sleep in anticipation.

 Great, great Summer

This is getting silly, but very, very nice. Just had my afternoon medicine (G&T+ice and a slice) in the garden and, given we are fairly sheltered and pretty well up country, in the sun it was 35c and the shade 29.9c. You just couldn't buy it!

So so hot here and the beach is full of all kinds of sights!  ::)

Husband is in PP and it's so nice not to have that feeling of envy when he goes without me. He is moaning about it being far too hot - 110 on the terrace! Too hot for him to paint so he says!

Back to here - Yachts are out and tide is in - you really could be anywhere! Just love this weather.  ;D People are actually smiling!  :o

Hasnt today been just perfect! Spent the day in the garden with my grand daughter splashing in the paddling pool and sitting under trees. Now having a glass of Albarino and a curry to cool us down! Not with the baby I hasten to add!

Well, danger level has been downgraded from level 3 to level 2 for this weekend. A lot more pleasant and safer to go out in no doubt. I'm sure I heard a very loud clap of thunder last night/early morning. Thought it was the fan blowing a fuse for a second!  :o
Title: Re: UK weather
Post by: Belladonna on July 19, 2013, 11:28:57 AM
Ah. Just found out what the loud bang was last night. There's a downside to having fans going, windows open and blinds half down. The blind had obviously caught the breeze at some point and knocked down two large photo frames on the window ledge!  ::)  No injurys sustained, but will rearrange the cooling system!!  ;)

Just love this weather and not a single breeze her this morning. I just love living by the sea . I feel I am on holiday. Just come home to put the hoover around and get the steam mop out. Husband on his way back from PP and I need to convince him what a busy hard week I have had!  ;D

What a difference a day makes, wasn't that a song? Wake up this morning and it's raining. only lightly but enough to damp the ground and get Katie wet when we went out. Much cooler and altogether welcome for a day or so, no more!

Yes it is beautiful isn't it. This weather all year would suit me big time!  :) Oh is it bank holiday this weekend - forgot all about that!  ::) I hate the final bank holiday in August because you just know it is the indication of the winter to come and that dreaded 'C' word!

"I don't care what the weather man says, coz the weather man's always lying!"

Its been pouring down since about 1am and only just easing up now.  Sun expected for about 5  mins at some point this afternoon, then back to summer rain again! Flowers look nice and clean though, and at least the workmen down the road didn't start at silly oclock for a change!  ;)

Been a bootiful day up here in God's Own County, wall to wall sunshine and, as I speak the temp is 25c in the shade. Little fluffy bits of cloud in the distance and the forecast is good for tomorrow then mediocre for the Bank Holiday!! But then, as Katiesmum will tell you, I go nowhere on a Bank Holiday, far too many people on the roads so, I don't really mind what it does then.

Well 34 years ago today I was putting on my wedding veil! And the weather was pretty much the same as today I have to say, but with no rain,  just overcast and a bit blowy.  It cleared up in the afternoon and was fine for photos on the grass - so that's my prediction for todays weather too!   :D

What a difference a day makes eh!??  Yesterday hit over 30 degs. Spent the day at Knole Park with my daughter and grand daughter, watching the deer, having a picnic and applying sun cream.   Left the windows open last night as it was so warm, only to wake up this morning hurridly closing them as the rain set in!  Showers due all day, but still pretty warm so its really muggy. Sun just peeking through the clouds.

Thats it. Heating on this morning! Freezing - Very cold last night! Last minute washing and drying was soaked by a cloud burst before I managed to bring it in so now trying to dry over radiators!!  Ridiculous!  ::)
Title: Re: UK weather
Post by: tonsyl on September 09, 2013, 10:03:22 AM
Not cold enough for the heating here yet but it is getting a bit "back endish" as they say in these parts. Mind you, glorious sun yesterday and starting well so far to-day so I'll live with cold nights as long as we get warm bright days.
Title: Re: UK weather
Post by: Belladonna on October 28, 2013, 09:29:59 AM
The storm - now dubbed Storm Jude evidently - started properly around 11pm last night with rain and wind carrying on all night.  This has resulted in hundreds of trees blown down, and most train services, if not all, being cancelled.  This is also the same for a number of flights.   Bridges are still closed either due to high winds, or lorries being blown over.  Why on earth do they take the risk if the winds are that high?!!  Local  A roads and those leading on to M25 are having problems too. Localised flooding is said to be a problem because of all the leaves blocking up drains. The wind is still gusting but I hear it is moving NE from London now up towards Cambridge.

But here, looking out of my window,  the sky is blue with white fluffy clouds and the sun is shining again.  Pots in the garden have remained upright, and we took down any hanging baskets so they are all safe.  Everything is soaking wet obviously, and many trees seem suddenly bare are the wind has stripped off all the leaves last night. Not going to risk driving today! :o Will now spend some time on facebook etc looking at scarey photos!  Hope everyone in the South has survived without too much damage, and hope anyone in the path of Storm Jude for later will be ok.   :-\

Post by: tonsyl on October 28, 2013, 10:10:38 AM
Quite spooky really Bella that we had absolutely no disruption up here and unless you listened to the radio this morning, you would not know there had been a storm. Still very wet but then we have all had more than our fair share of rain in the last couple of weeks and combined with fallen leaves, some watercourses are higher than normal. Like you, I hope things soon get back to normal down there and our sympathies must go to the families of those who have been killed in accidents brought about by the storm.
Title: Re: UK weather
Post by: Belladonna on October 28, 2013, 12:34:08 PM
Absolutely devestating for the families. Dreadful that lives should be lost in that way.  :'(

Just having an almightly cloud burst at the moment. This is going to add to the flooding in places for sure. QE2 bridge opened, tunnel closed! Trains still very limited timetable, both over and underground.  Lets face it, we are absolute wimps in this country when it comes to a bit of weather compared to other countries!  ::)

We have lost 9 fence panels around the garden. Smashed to pieces. The roof is off the summer house and the garden bin is over with all the gardeners bits everywhere. The wind is still howling and it is pouring. Along our road leading to the seafront trees are down and roads are closed. The beach is covered in rubbish and along the beach road you need to navigate around beach hut roofs. A tri-maran has blown over and on it's side on the beach and a couple of small cruisers are sinking! All in all not good here but it is not as bad as was earlier.

Tried to phone to order new fence - the company we use who are a brilliant family concern are stating a month waiting list! I suppose it will be b&q then as need to make secure. The idea of a nice apartment really appeals this morning!

Oh no! So sorry to hear that Kate, that's going to be needing a lot of phone calls I'm sure!  :(  About to head back home today ourselves after a VERY restless night here in Llenaire, as it did not stop storming all night.  Really really strong winds, but not sure if it rained. After reading your post, I am a little concerned about arriving back home ourselves, as we are on the Kent / London borders so probably have had similar weather to you. Yep. Christmas lights and reindeer put up and we get a storm warning ~ obviously! Same every year!  Thames Barrier goes up this afternoon, down again tomorrow morning, then up again tomorrow afternoon. High spring tides plus bad weather coming down from the North will create coastal problems along the East coast and up the Thames. Winds are starting to be very gusty here now, even the birds are doing wheelies!!  Batten down the hatches guys. Take care out there.  :-\

Amazing day here today! Can almost here the spring bulbs pushing up! Well I could if I opened the door, put on coat and gloves and walked off some of this Christmas food. Perhaps tomorrow!  ;)

Weather beautiful today. Reaching 45 today so we are told. Mainly this week and most of last I have just seen it through the windows though, as the dreaded virus (who knows which one these days!) has confined me to the prison of a duvet, whether in bed or on the sofa! I have missed out on family get togethers, one of them being my own son's 30th birthday!!  I am feeling very sorry for myself and even more fed up.  But HEY, THE WEATHER IS LOOKING LOVELY!!   ;)

Sorry to hear you are still unwell Bella. It's been the same this end too. One bug after another! As for the flu jab - not sure if it helped or not really.

Beautiful here too today =  blue skies and through the window could be a summers day. Step outside and flipping freezing!

Wish you better Bella.

Sorry to hear you're under the weather BD, hope you feel better soon. Eleanor, your comments re flu jabs is interesting in as much that quite a number of folk have been struck down up here and those affected most have been those that had the flu jab. Katiesmum had a bad session over Christmas and New Year, she had the jab a month or so before and for someone who almost never gets colds etc, she went down like a ton of bricks. I haven't had the jab and I have been fine so I think there is definitely a link. As to the weather, the sun has just peeped through here to-day, at last.

Thanks for your best wishes both of you.  Sorry to hear that illness has struck you both too. Sounds bad for Katiesmum, please send her our best wishes and virtual hug - real ones will just spread germs!!  ::) I'm never sure about the flu jab either, although both my parents have it, and my DIL has it after having very bad flu a couple of years ago, and now expecting another baby.
Have to say the only thing I take that seems to work is NightNurse, which knocks me out for about two days so I have to work out when I can take it!  ::)

Sun just beginning to drop below some high rooftops now, leaving the sky pale blue with white whispy  clouds.  ;)

This certainly seems to be a bad year for bugs doesn't it! I think every family seems to have been hit along the way. I really don't know what to think about the flu jab actually. I have to have one as I have an underlying medical problem. My husband refuses to have one. This may well change next year as he had the flu very badly this year. Thankfully I was ok then which I do put down to the jab. I had the horrid throat and cough that children seem to have a habit of passing around.

Weather was pretty harsh yesterday and last night. To pinch girlies phrase, it was blowing a hoolie with lots of rain lashing the windows too! This morning has a little bit of sunshine, but not much, and it keeps changing its mind anyway! A fair bit of breeze / wind though which is giving a very nasty chill factor. Highs of 8 today, lows of 3, and at the moment its 5.
Definitely a housework day, if only to keep warm!!  ::)

Freezing here but very bright and sunny. Just been for a walk along a very cold seafront. The ears are still burning with the cold but it was lovely to see the sea quite calm.

Alarmingly we saw 5 beach huts totally ruined. Roof off and sides out and a couple just a pile of wood on the beach. Sand washed up around 6 foot high so was some storm.

Agree with bella - I'm in now and will stay in but looking out of th window it looks like a love August day - step out and it's January in Siberia!

Its really no fun any more.  :-[ So many people with dreadful problems which have been going on for months now, and no real respite in sight. Even when the floods start going down, the muck and rubbish left behind will  be another real problem to solve.  Fields and cattle have suffered too, so the back lash for food prices and availability is going to cause more anxiety.  The wind is finding its way through every nook and cranny in my house today, and the rain is due again this afternoon. Hope everyone is ok.

Yes it really is awful isn't it and I feel so much fot the people who are really suffering with the flooding.

I've just been out and felt unsafe in my car as the wind was really taking it. The seafront here is closed off. The waves are huge so I sispect they are expecting the tide to hit the roads again.

I'm in for the day now!

Well it looks like summer has arrived here, at least for the weekend! Beautiful clear sky with just a couple of small fluffy clouds in the distance at the moment! Windows opened, lawn mower beckons - may wait a couple of hours for the dew to dry off for that though!  ;) Lets hope it stays like this for a full weekend at least!  :D

Stingy eyes today, sure sign of a good weekend for those who don't suffer from hay fever! I actually don't as a rule, but obviously there is a particular pollen blowing round today that is affecting me.

I don't think hay fever is a problem in Mallorca is it?

Just checked the weather station in the garden and, out of the breeze, in the sun it's 31c at the moment.Wait for the thunderstorm later 'cos this is too good to last.

Hottest day yet today, so spent most of it indoors ironing all the washing I did yesterday! I did cut the grass though as it's supposed to storm tonight or tomorrow of course !

And much the same today again.  Not with the sunshine though! Good day to stay in and paint the kitchen, sort out tiles, do the ironing , write a book, say, lovely weather for ducks,  climb the flipping walls out of frustration!!!!!   >:(

Not even 8am yet and its ridiculously hot! Keeping the blinds down to keep it cooler. And where am I going today? Up town sandal shopping with  my daughter! Kings Road also beckons evidently, for a cheeky spritzer or two! Glad she knows where she is going as I certainly don't! Not expecting a great deal of breeze to get through but a/c in stores will be welcome!  ;)

Great evening was had by all 20,000 people at the O2! They started playing at 8, had a really short break at about 9, then played on til 11. The show itself was faultless , stage was great with lots of movement, brilliant camera work on the screens with interesting video backdrops and lighting. Goodness knows how many guitars they have, but they seemed to change instruments for virtually every number, and these are serious looking instruments of all shapes, sizes and colours. Sound was spot on, no feedback, all jokes and history was heard clear as a bell. No photography was allowed at all and boy, were they hot on that! The playing was amazing, ranging from their very early work, which I admit not to have heard too much of, through to a few of the more commercial numbers which obviously got the crowd up, singing and dancing! A superb 6 piece backing percussion group added to the rounded sound of this great group. Really good interaction with the crowd too. Three encores ending with Desperado and the crowd still went wild! Came out on a high and wanted to buy a T shirt which I would probably never wear, but I wasn't in charge of the purse strings last night!  ::)

Sounds a great evening Bella. Excellent review too! Good value for money as sometimes you can pay a fortune for tickets only to have the artist on for an hour or so.

T shirt probably a good pass! Put the money towards a pair of shoes which you would wear!  ;D

Lol! At least they don't shrink in the wash! Read in the paper, with a photo to go with it, that a couple of members were at Paul Mcartneys birthday bash . Doubt that was a dry evening!  ;)

Our neighbours E mailed us last week and said we would be coming back to a heatwave!  We might have driven back through France with temperatures in the mid 20's on Thursday but it is just 9c here this morning. Where's the nice weather people were on about last week?
