Bars & Restaurants / Restaurant & Bar changes in Puerto Pollensa for 2017 season
« Last post by Mary Lorenzo on January 31, 2017, 10:48:00 AM »
Well, even though our leader will be very sorry, Burger King has closed down.  No sign of who is going in there yet.

Sadly Manolo of Tango Restaurant has decided to retire and as his son is not interested in taking over the business, the restaurant is up for grabs.

Tribeca has gone and a new eaterie called La Esquinita has taken its place.  It offers home cooked chicken, hamburgers and kebabs and it's open till the early hours (from 11am till 00.30 hours) so may be a handy place for a late night snack too.  They also serve very nice coffee.

Big Ben is currently undergoing major refurbishment (on the same block as Tango Restaurant) and is due to open soon after the end of February 2017 and will be run by the Italian twins Mimo and Pepino.

Tolo of Tolos Restaurant has also decided to retire and Toni of Marina Brasserie, Casa Vila and Casa Vila di Mare restaurant group will be taking over the premises this coming year.

Bar Karibe - where on earth is that you ask! - is also changing hands.  It's the bar next to Cuin Hogar, the kitchen shop near to La Bodeguita.  I've never seen a customer in there when it was Bar Karibe but that is all due to change with the space being taken over by a couple from the UK who plan to turn it into a piano and live music bar.  It's going to be called Cafe Ritmo.

Bar Romero has also changed hands after Mr Romero decided to retire.  The new place is a funky little bar called Tonik which also services tapas and has a cake ordering service too.

Bars & Restaurants / Re: Tapas Route in PP having a little rest Winter 2016/2017

And having come back from a couple of weeks in Puerto Pollensa, it is definitely worth going to La Bodeguita and El Rincon de Mami for the tapas route evening.
Can Tofol is also still 'taking part' on Thursday evenings.

Plumbing all sorted in Tots and live music tends to be with Derek Holt on Saturday evenings, starting earliesh at 6pm and then Guillermo Segui and friends on Wednesday evenings from 8pm.  This may change in February as it tends to be such a quiet month in the port.

Guillermo has also been playing a regular Friday evening gig in Norai Tapas Bar (formerly Matchpoint Bar by the marina roundabout) but this too won't be happening in February 2017 whilst the bar closes for staff rest.

Weather and Miscellaneous / San Antonio 2017 -awful weather!
« Last post by Mary Lorenzo on January 22, 2017, 21:12:30 PM »
We've been in Puerto Pollensa many times for San Antoni and have usually been blessed with several days of sun & bright blue skies. It's usually pretty chilly at night times but nothing like the weather we've had this week. There have been gale force winds, torrential rain, thunder, lightning & snow. The huge waves in the Bay of Pollensa have ripped small boats & yachts off their moorings. Several broken hulls of various crafts litter the coastline today. Roads across the island have been cut off due to snow in the higher areas & due to flooding lower down. The two main reservoirs have received so much rain they are now overflowing.
The Paseo Anglada Camarassa is littered with seaweed and debris left by the waves & most of the Pine Walk is covered with sand and algae.
It certainly is a week to remember!

No live music at Tots after all due to plumbing & other issues.  :-[

Guillermo will be playing in Hostal Borras this evening as part of an open MIC music evening, hosted by Maria & Peter.
Guillermo will also be playing at Norai Tapas Bar tomorrow (Friday 20 Jan 2017).
Derek Holt will be holding the fort at Tots on Saturday 21 January 2017.

Please support bars in the port which offer live music!

Bars & Restaurants / Tolos Restaurant
« Last post by Flyer on December 18, 2016, 20:45:53 PM »
Enjoying a quiet/windy/wet time in the Port and bumping into the locals in the few restaurants that are open. One that isn't open but will open in 2017 with new owners is Tolos! Yes folks you heard it here first and once cleared I will divulge the new owner - suffice to say that the 'new' Tolos is not their first venture.

Transport & Travel / Flights from Southampton to Palma
« Last post by Mary Lorenzo on December 16, 2016, 21:35:59 PM »
What is it with Flybe.....can they not make their scheduling minds up!

Two years ago Flybe (based in Exeter) announced that they would no longer fly from Southampton to Palma.....and by the time we had all found alternatives (Gatwick and Bournemouth being the main contenders), Flybe decided that they did love the Southampton to Palma route after all and set it back up again.

Last year, there was a similar situation and this year there was no sign of them operating on the Southampton to Palma route.  A new contender Volotea has snook in and will be operating the Sou-Pmi route next year on 4 days per week.   And now - no surprise really I guess - Flybe have now scheduled in Sou-PMI flights on Sundays in the main season of 2017.
