Now it is planning to bring the waste from a several European countries in Mallorca.

Thank you for this Catalina. I think this is bad for Mallorca.
Where are the green people to fight this proposal?  :o

The green people have all been loaded in the incinerator along with the rubbish.

No, they are making a noise, as would be expected.

There was a cartoon in "Ultima Hora" yesterday, reflecting on the news that Madrid is due to be the location of Eurovegas with all the investment etc that it will bring. It went: Madrid, Eurovegas; Mallorca, Euromerda. And I suspect you can figure out what "merda" means even you don't speak Catalan.

And it gets better. The waste is to be shipped to Alcudia and then transported to Palma to the Son Reus incinerator. And from what I can make out it will include treated oil waste.

We have started to read this, but with holiday brain on its taking a bit of while to get round it.  Cant see the figures working at first and second glance! And I think that is the  main reason for them agreeing / wanting it isnt it? Not sitting pretty with most folks me thinks.  :(

"The Insular Councillor for the Environment, Catalina Soler, confirmed yesterday that the first shipment of waste from Italy, the UK and Ireland will arrive early next year and the shipments will unload in the Port of Alcudia before being transported by road to the Son Reus incinerator on the outskirts of Palma." Do you think that tourists will come in Mallorca?
Do you think people of different countries will buy a real estate in Mallorca?

Very good points Cat.  Can pubic opinion be taken into consideration, or is it now a done deal?  ???

Gosh I do hope so Catalina but this just isn't good news!

It really does seem quite ridiculous - It actually sounds like a joke but I assume it isn't!  >:(

I'm looking at this on my blog tomorrow. Key to it all is the business of waste treatment on Mallorca and why further incineration facilities were ever built at Son Reus.

Is there an island opposition group up and running? Do they have any say?
