Traffic chaos and anger expressed by some bar and restaurant owners in Palma.

The Association of bars, cafes and restaurants Mallorca today expressed outrage at the closure to traffic promenade next Sunday 'in the tourist season and without notice,' a decision of Palma City Council to consider 'very serious' by its effects.

Before the closure to traffic of this dual carriageway road between 30 and 13. 8. 30 pm on Sunday, from Porto Pi shopping centre as far as the Gesa building, by holding a sporting event, the company said in a statement his 'outrage' because it was announced two days in advance. The president of the Association of bars, cafes and restaurants, Alfonso Robledo, said that this is a 'very serious' measure. 'We are in peak season and has been taken without consultation and with very little margin notice,' he complained. The company stressed that his indignation is not directed towards the promoters of the sporting event, but to the time of year chosen and the lack of foresight. 'We are in favour of events organised in the city, but they have to do in the off season with the aim of boosting the city and seasonally adjusted, not in full season when closing a street and the promenade for 5 hours on a Sunday the morning will be a great loss of revenue for area businesses and inconvenience to customers, 'said Robledo. 'We want a living city, where events occur but without detriment to restaurants and shops,' he insisted and pointed out that 'for some time, there is an unwritten agreement with the institutions to promote events only out of season and contribute to tourist seasonal adjustment ', which was agreed within the Palma 365 Foundation.
