Porto Colom
« on: August 11, 2011, 18:51:52 PM »
Owner of Stay also owns a restaurant in Porto Colom with a similar set menu to Stay and pics of the place (link on Stay website) suggest it will be equally as good so I have three questions .....
1) Anybody been to the restaurant and if so is it worth the trip?
2) I've probably been to Porto Colom (above Cala D'Or) but I constantly get places on the island mixed up - what's it like? and
3) I guess it takes around an hour (coast road) ...... am I right (driving not on the scooter) ?

Gracias

1) Not been, but would give it a try, although it seems a little more rustic than Stay.
2) Yes we visited when we stayed Cala D'or - small bay and quite pretty.Fishing port and you can climb up to lighthouse. For a day out from Pp, Drive to Inca, take Manacor road to Felantix then onto Porto Colom. Detour to the sanctuary of Sant Salvador ontop of the highest peak in that area - fabulous views. 510 metres high and there is a coffee shop there and plenty of parking.
3) Timings difficult as depends how long you stop etc. but yes, about an hour.

Friends of ours have been and enjoyed it very much. Similar business model to Stay and apparently the same level of service.

Long way to go for din dins and probably a good hour . Probably make nice day trip and enjoy lunch there after taking your time getting there as Bella suggests.

OK accepted so in return another question please if you do not mind my interupting your packing  :D ......... you mention Sant Salvador and the cafe which sounds a good place to stop off for a coffee before lunch however one of the outlaws staying with us uses a stick and she isn't brilliant on her pegs - place suitable or not? Gracias

You can drive right up to the monestary and the cafe is on the terrace with only a few steps to it if I remember rightly. I remember it being very breezy up there and struggling with a Monroe moment or two! ;)

Well - you know how to get people looking at this forum Bella!  ;D

Hubby adores Marilyn - much prefer to have married her than me!  ;)

Son's cat is named after Marilyn too!  ::)

Very good, Bella

But what about the  26ft statue erected in downtown Chicago ( see below ) .

Upset all the locals cos it's attracted all sorts of weirdos looking up her skirt . They are even more upset cos the
" Seven Year Itch " was based in New York so are wondering what they have done to deserve this. Fortunately only temporary and due to be removed next year, much to the relief of the locals .

Now, why oh why couldn't Pollenca Council have had the imagination to put something similar in the renovated square in PP ?
