Books about Mallorca
« on: December 22, 2011, 14:39:49 PM »
Dear All

My friend has written me about the writer Anna Nicholas. Honestly I did not know her name before his words.

I think it can be interesting to look at Mallorca from her point of view!  :)

Best wishes, Catalina

Eleanor , I am so glad that it is interesting for you!

Some time ago I have read very interesting book about one journalist who decided to live in Mallorca.
It is written with a good descriptions of the wonderful places of Mallorca and a good taste of humor.
I will have an attempt to find the title of the book. :) I do not remember it.

And ...Of course George Sand "Winter in Majorca". I think this book is known for everybody. :)

With sunny wishes, Catalina

I think I know who you mean Catalina.

Peter Kerr has written some brilliant books;
Snowball Oranges
Manana manana
Viva Mallorca
Paella to Porridge
A parrot in the pepper tree.

Not sure which order they come in, but they are all on my bookshelf!

Another good writer in the same style is Chris Stewart. I have two or three books of his, but off the top of my head can only remember
Almond Blossom
and
Driving over Lemons.

Now of course, I am going to have to read them all over again!  :)

Thank you Belladonna !!!  :) Yes, Peter has written the brilliant books.
I agree with you. By the way, Peter has told me that he loves my videos.
I am so proud of his warm words!

Chris is excellent writer too. I agree with you. I love his books.
"Driving over Lemons" is a fantastic book.
He is really the great optimist of Andalucía.  :)

I will read "Almond Blossom". Thank you Belladonna!

With sunny wishes, :)

Dear All,

New video about the beautiful Puerto Pollensa is ready. It was taken some days ago.

The composer is the great writer Peter Kerr who is award-winning Scottish author of bestselling 'Snowball Oranges' series, set in Mallorca.

I will be very glad your visit.

Dear All,

I know that there are many members of The Bony Chat love the books of Peter Kerr.

This week Summersdale Publishers  have started a promotion on all their Spanish themed Kindle ebooks (selling all for £1.99).
I was asked to share this information :)

Thank you Catalina. There are a couple there that I don't actually have as ordinary books. All I need now is a Kindle!  :D

I have read this book, but just couldnt get into it to do it justice for some reason. Although I really wanted to, I still found myself skipping paragraphs. Must give it another go, now I'm older!!!  ;)

That is so annoying isn't it Bella, especially when you feel you really would enjoy something once into it. I've given up counting the times I have 'read' a book only to realise that I hadn't absorbed any of it and had been day dreaming. Only an English teacher could admit to that! lol  ;D

Yes Eleanor I 've lost count of the books I think Ive read but really only skimmed  ::)  ???
I have just bought Driving Over Lemons for John as he enjoyed the Peter Kerr titles so hope these will be as popular    :D Not had time to read them as usually so tired  I fall asleep as soon as I see a book these days, but I still prefer to hold a real book but can see the attraction of kindle and ipad - particularly when travelling etc but happy at the moment - anyway I love to look at and find a long forgotten favourite book in my very untidy and eclectic bookcase  - gives me a feeling of home and sense of security belonging and memories :) EmJ x

Lifes too short, and there are far too many books in this world to persevere with one you're not enjoying.  If you're a third of the way through and still struggling, chuck it.  I have real books sent over direct from Amazon (free delivery to Spain if over £25), particularly to read on the beach etc, but occasionally download a book to my tablet.  I agree with EJ.  Much as I enjoy it, its not the same as opening a crisp unread book.
